How to hang a neon sign on the wall:
Installation tips & step-by-step guides
Before you can enjoy your customised neon sign, you first have to install it. How to hang up your neon sign depends on the product variant – glass neon generally requires a few more steps than LED neon, for example.
In the following, we provide step-by-step installation instructions for the following products:
- Glass Neon (direct to wall)
- Glass Neon (pre-mounted)
- LED Neon (direct to wall)
- LED Neon (pre-mounted)
You can find information about the product variants on our Neon product page.
Please note that all installations should be carried out by qualified persons under secure conditions to minimise risk and avoid damages.
Before the installation – tips for hanging neon signs
The first important step is to find a suitable location for your neon sign. Your custom logo or wall lettering should be installed in a spot that’s clearly visible and has enough space so your neon sign can be the focus point.
Screws and dowels should always be selected to fit your wall type.
Please be aware that glass neon signs may require a protective front cover when installed in a public place. If you’re unsure whether this applies to your chosen location, check with our team to make sure your neon sign meets all requirements!
When you unpack your neon sign, first check for visible damages to avoid any later surprises and make sure that all components you need are there. We provide a list of the components with every guide below.
If you lose any of the components, no worries! You can order all spare parts in our Accessories Shop.
Neon sign installation: step-by-step instructions
The following guides apply to “plug & play” products only. Products that are not “plug & play”, including all outdoor signage, always require wiring by a professional electrician.
If you don’t have access to a professional mounter, you can request an installation by our professional mounting team.
How to hang a glass neon sign – direct-to-wall variant
Product components: technical drawing, screws & dowels, neon tubes, tube supports, silicon caps, power supply unit
Required tools: level, tape, drill, screwdriver, marker, hands & patience
- Preparation
Align the drawing using the level. Tape the drawing to the wall. Drill holes in the assigned areas according to the drawing. Remove the drawing from the wall.
- Fixing the tube supports
Insert dowels in the holes. Place the tube supports. Fix the tube supports with screws using a screwdriver.
- Inserting the glass tubes
Align the neon with the tube supports. Gently insert the neon tubes into the tube supports.

Install the transformer on the wall using dowels and screws. Connect the high voltage cables to the electrodes on the ends of the neon tubes by twisting the wires together. Cover the connections with silicon caps as a safety measure.
Attention: in case there are multiple systems (glass elements), the electrical wiring should contain all of them. Systems are always connected in series.
- Plug the neon and turn on
Plug the transformer into the power outlet. Switch on. Enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: This step-by-step guide serves the purpose of explaining the installation process and the general steps involved. For detailed information about measurements, tools and technical specifications of the product, please refer to the product manual contained on the product package. Some steps require the handling of electrical wires. Make sure all connections are safely made before the power cable is connected to the power source. The installation should only be carried out by qualified personnel.

How to hang a neon sign without drilling
If you don’t want to or are unable to drill holes in your wall for whatever reason, a good alternative is a suspended pre-mounted neon sign. This product variant comes pre-mounted on a backplate and includes a hanging system with steel cables. You can hang this on pre-existing hooks or similar, but please always make sure that the weight is supported and that the sign is well balanced.
LED neon signs are robust and very light, so they can technically be fixed to the wall using a strong industrial glue. We would however not recommend this.
Standing and tabletop signs
For even more flexible and mobile solutions, we offer encased neon or LED neon signs. These practical tabletop neon signs come in an acrylic box with the converter inserted into the base. The "neonbox" is able to stand freely on its own, so you can easily keep it standing on a shelf or standing on a floor (just make sure it's not in the way so nobody steps on it!). You also have the option of hanging it on the wall via keyholes.
For reasons of stability and safety, there are of course size limitations to this product variant. It’s best suited for small and compact designs.
