Illuminated letters – more popular than ever?
Illuminated, three-dimensional letters are a traditional staple of the signage industry – and for good reason. They allow for hyper-individualised, sophisticated advertising, and well-made letters look impressive in any size.
No wonder then that this popular advertising technology has been gaining even more traction in recent times.
Besides Neon, with which the Sygns story started several years ago, Letters are among the products that are most requested by our customers across the board.
There’s a downside to large-scale illuminated letters though: with high-end materials and a comparatively elaborate manufacturing process, they can get quite costly and don’t necessarily always fit the budget of smaller, more cost-oriented businesses and companies. With this in mind, we’ve been offering a more price-conscious alternative to our Premium Letters made from metal or acrylics: Standard Letters. These letters made from lower-priced materials such as 3D print or PVC are currently available as front-lit and back-lit letter variants.
So with the intention of broadening our budget-friendly product range, we went back to our (metaphorical) Sygns Lab™ and are excited to present the newest product in our Letters family. The brand new, fully or side-lit letter type: Machined Letters!
3D acrylic machined letters
So what exactly are Sygns Machined Letters? They are three-dimensional letters (or logos or shapes or anything you want them to be!) milled from acrylic and illuminated from behind with LED lighting.
The 3D acrylic letters are fixed to a sleek, compact box structure made from dibond, an aluminium composite. The design is cut out from the box that contains the LED strips as well as the power supply unit. So there’s your first advantage: As all electrical components are safely "hidden" inside the box, you only have one input power cable to connect to a power source. For outdoor signs, this requires on-site wiring, while products made for indoor use have plug & play options available – just as you know it from other Sygns products.
This means that the installation is really easy, but the compact box has other advantages as well: Having a certain depth (which depends on the size of the product) means that it can stand on its own, plus if it’s smaller-sized it’s also easily transportable.
Fully lit letters or side-lit letters – why not both?
The translucent acrylic diffuses the LED light so that the letters appear fully lit – without any dark edges, as is sometimes the case with 3D letters assembled from multiple parts (front and sides). Coloured foils applied to the backside of the letters allow for a wide range of colours.
It’s also possible to add an opaque material, such as dibond or non-translucent acrylic, to the face of the letters so that they only glow on the sides. This gives the logo or design a floating quality that is very appealing. Or you can mix and match, having one part of your logo glow on the sides and another fully illuminated.
