Ceiling neon lights: ideas & best practice
We talk a lot about wall-mounted neon signs. Because that’s the typical or "traditional" way to use illuminated signs in general, right? But Neon as a medium perfectly lends itself to thinking outside the box – not only in terms of design, but also in the way it’s used and showcased. In this spirit, we present to you: ideas for ceiling-mounted glass neon and LED neon lights!
Neon ceiling lamps? Yes, please!
Neon lights can add a unique and eye-catching touch to any room, and installing them on the ceiling can offer several advantages.
-
For starters, neon lights can help create an ambient and relaxing atmosphere, as the soft glow can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
- Additionally, neon lights can be used to highlight specific areas of a room, such as a bar area or a pool table, making these spaces more visually appealing and inviting.
- Installing neon lights on the ceiling can also help to create a sense of height and space in a room, as the lights draw the eye upwards and make the ceiling feel higher than it actually is.
- Finally, neon lights are comparatively energy-efficient and can last for years, making them a smart and cost-effective choice for anyone looking to add a bit of flair to their space.

Green neon lights for a green supermarket: Veganz in Berlin
Long before veganism went mainstream, Veganz was already an institution in the burgeoning Berlin vegan scene. Nowadays their innovative and environmentally conscious products are widely available in supermarkets and drugstores all over Germany and beyond, but back in 2017 we had the honour to outfit their (to date only) vegan supermarket in Berlin-Friedrichshain with some stunning neon lights.
The warm glow of the glass-neon lights that were installed maybe not on, but just below the ceiling makes the industrial environment instantly more welcoming and comfortable, and the long, straight neon lines really open up the space. And the lush green neon colour was probably a total no-brainer!

Ceiling neon lights for art spaces: Julia Stoschek Foundation Berlin
The Julia Stoschek Foundation is a private collection of contemporary international art with two publicly accessible exhibition spaces in Düsseldorf and Berlin. JSF collaborated with Sygns in 2017 to adorn the ceiling at their Berlin location with some large-scale neon light pieces.
The beautiful circles and half circles, formed by cold white glass-neon tubes mounted directly to the ceiling, are still in place as far as we know. So if you’re inclined to incorporate a little visit at the Foundation into your next Berlin trip – it’s definitely worth it, and not only for the ceiling neon lights either!
Beets, roots & neon: ceiling neon lights for Beets & Roots
Beets & Roots is a trusted long-time partner of Sygns, and the breathtaking 2017 ceiling neon installation at their Berlin-Mitte restaurant is not only one of our all-time favourites, but probably also one of our most famous past projects.
The ceiling-mounted neon lights in cold white, warm white and a soft pastel purple (our "orchid" neon colour) compliment and contrast with the stark, industrial grey of the concrete ceilings and give the otherwise hypermodern space an almost otherworldly quality.

Don’t swing from the neon chandelier (please)
Okay, that Sia song reference was probably a bit of a stretch, but just like “real” crystal chandeliers, so-called neon chandeliers fascinate with their fragile beauty. Highly customised, neon chandeliers, sometimes also referred to as neon pendant lights, typically consist of glass or LED neon lights that are suspended from the ceiling on a circular construction of some kind. Their design can be abstract or verbal, and they’re sure to turn every message into a real eyecatcher, as neon chandeliers easily become the centrepiece of every room.
